William Byron gewinnt das Cup Series-Rennen in Watkins Glen. William Byron hat sein Saisonhighlight bereichert und sich mit einem dominanten Sieg beim Go Bowling at The Glen am Sonntag im historischen Watkins Glen International seinen ersten Sieg auf der Straße in der NASCAR Cup Series seiner Karriere gesichert.
Für ihn ist es der beste fünfte Saisonsieg seiner Karriere, der höchste in der NASCAR Cup Series und der höchste für ihn in einer einzigen Saison in seiner sechsjährigen Karriere in der Top-Serie von NASCAR. Und das musste sich der 25-jährige gebürtige Charlotter verdienen, indem er mit Denny Hamlin, einem anderen Herausforderer der Meisterschaft, satte 2,632 Sekunden hinter sich ließ und sich den Sieg sicherte. Byron führte 66 der 90 Runden und baute seinen Vorsprung gegenüber dem Feld in jeder Runde des letzten 10-Runden-Laufs bis zur Zielflagge aus.
