Denny Hamlin scheitert an Larson und erzielt den 50. Sieg in der Cup-Serie in Pocono
Denny Hamlin setzte sich sieben Runden vor Schluss in einem knappen Tür-an-Tür-Pump-and-Go-Rennen gegen Kyle Larson durch und sicherte sich auf dem Pocono Raceway den historisch besten siebten Sieg aller Zeiten in der NASCAR Cup Series – den Sieg im HighPoint am Sonntag .com 400 markiert auch Hamlins 50. Karriere-Cup-Trophäe und den zweiten der Saison 2023.
Das Rennen endete wegen eines Zwischenfalls in der letzten Runde anderswo auf der Strecke unter Verwarnung, und das Pocono-Publikum äußerte seinen Unmut und buhte laut, als Hamlin feierte, nachdem er nach der Zielflagge seinen Nr. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota auf der ersten Strecke der 2,5-Meilen-Strecke verlassen hatte. Der 42-jährige Hamlin behauptete, es handele sich lediglich um einen knappen Kampf um den Sieg. Larson, der nach der Berührung den 20. Platz belegte, war anderer Meinung und mit seinem guten Freund und Golfpartner nicht allzu zufrieden.
