Martin Truex Jr. dominiert früh, hält spät und gewinnt in Sonoma.
SONOMA, Kalifornien – Was für einen Unterschied ein Jahr macht.
Nachdem Martin Truex Jr. letztes Jahr in der Debütsaison des NASCAR-Next-Gen-Autos auf dem Sonoma Raceway große Probleme hatte, gelang ihm beim Toyota/Save Mart 350 am Sonntag eine souveräne 180-Grad-Wendung.
Truex überwand eine ungünstige Caution und führte mit 51 von 110 Runden die höchste Rennbestleistung an. Damit errang Truex seinen zweiten Saisonsieg und seinen vierten auf dem 1,99 Meilen langen Straßenkurs, die meisten Siege unter aktiven Fahrern und nur knapp hinter Jeff Gordons fünf in der Streckengeschichte .
Der 33. Karrieresieg von Truex mit einem Vorsprung von 2,979 Sekunden auf den Zweitplatzierten Kyle Busch war weit entfernt von der schwachen Leistung der letzten Saison, als Truex als 28. startete und als 26. endete.
