Last weekend from 07.-09. July the NASCAR GP Italy of the NASCAR European Championship took place at the Autodromo di Vallelunga (Rome). Tobias Dauenhauer from Mörlenbach (GER) started again with his team Bremotion in the #99 Chevrolet Camaro. Midsummer temperatures of around 35 degrees and bright sunshine prevailed over the entire weekend.

Already in the two training sessions on Friday, Dauenhauer was able to show good speed, completed fast lap times and reached 4th and 5th place in the two sessions. Qualifying started on Saturday morning. Here, the ADAC Hesse-Thuringia athlete was able to set top times, qualified for the Superpole (top 10 in Qualifying) and achieved 3rd place. With a good feeling, he started the first race on glowing asphalt from the third grid position on Saturday afternoon. After a good start however, Dauenhauer struggled with engine problems and misfires on his V8 car right from the start of the race, which meant he lost a lot of time on the straight sections of the track, was no longer able to keep up the speed of the top drivers and finished the first race in 10th place. After the race, a crack in the fuel line was found, which led to belief that the problem has been identified. On Sunday morning in the ten-minute warm-up practice, Dauenhauer was able to set the fastest times again and reached second place. After this result, he started the race from 10th place on the grid with a positive attitude. Unfortunately, the engine problems returned right on from the beginning and after several duels and fights, he also finished the second race in 10th place.

Dauenhauer after the race: “Two top 10 placements are not a bad result, but still my aim is to fight for the win. We showed in the practices and qualifying that we can set the fastest times. The extremely hot temperatures have bothered our engine and we will check where these problems come from, that we can be fully competitive again at the next race.”

After a short summer break, the next race is the NASCAR GP Czech Republic from 25-27. August at the Autodrom Most.
