PRESS RELEASE Tobias Dauenhauer
The summer break of the NASCAR European Championship came to an end, and from August 30th to September 1st, the NASCAR GP Czech Republic took place at the Autodrom Most under scorching summer temperatures. Highly motivated, Tobias Dauenhauer from Mörlenbach was eager to get back behind the wheel of his EuroNASCAR Chevrolet Camaro with his team Bremotion.
During Friday afternoon’s practice sessions, he tested several setups on the car and ultimately secured 8th place. On Saturday morning, Dauenhauer headed into qualifying. The ADAC Hesse-Thuringia sponsored driver only managed to set his best times towards the end of the session and struggled with traffic on his fastest lap. This resulted in 12th place for the German driver. Starting from the sixth row, the 26-year-old had a good start in the first race and gained three positions in the first lap. As the race progressed, he overtook another competitor and crossed the finish line in 8th place.
On Sunday afternoon, Dauenhauer started the second race from 8th place. Shortly after the start, a severe crash involving several cars caused the race to be red-flagged. At the subsequent restart, Dauenhauer had another strong start and quickly moved up to 5th place. In the following laps the ADAC Hesse-Thuringia sponsored driver had exciting battles with his rivals and finished in 7th place. However, a subsequent 10-second penalty dropped Dauenhauer back to 9th place.
After the race, Dauenhauer commented: “It was an intense weekend. Started with a less-than-ideal qualifying and 12th place on the grid for the first race. We were able to fight our way forward in the races and showed some exciting battles, but my goal is to compete for podiums. This weekend, we simply missed pace. Nevertheless, we managed to secure important championship points with two Top 10 finishes.”
Next on the schedule for Dauenhauer and his team Bremotion is their home race. From September 20th to 22nd, the NASCAR European Championship will take place at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben. This marks the beginning of the hot phase of the playoffs and the first race weekend of the two final weekends, where double championship points will be up for grabs.
