Last weekend from June 16-18, the NASCAR GP UK of the NASCAR European Championship took place under sunny and warm conditions on the legendary 1.9-kilometer Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. New at the field was the German team Bremotion, which made its debut in this championship with a brand new NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro. The driver Tobias Dauenhauer (25) was committed here in the PRO class and should contribute his experience from the last few years.
Already in the two training sessions on Friday, Dauenhauer and his new team were able to show that he was able to keep up with the fastest times right away and drove the 5th fastest time. After not being completely satisfied with the car’s settings in qualifying on Saturday morning, the German started in the first race on Saturday afternoon from 11th on the grid. Dauenhauer was able to fight his way up to 7th place with exciting duels and overtakings, keep up with the speed of the leading group and took 3rd place in the junior classification. With a positive attitude he was starting from position 5 on the grid in the second race. Right at the beginning, he was able to defend his starting position and fought for the podium. But then everything didn’t turn as planned. A competitor in front of him left a trail of oil due to a defect, on which Dauenhauer slipped away and lost 2 places. As the race progressed, the 25-year-old was hit on the rear wheel by another vehicle and was just able to get his V8 car under control. Shortly before the end of the race there was a safety car phase due to an accident involving another driver. At the restart, the ADAC Hesse-Thuringia supported pilot was able to make up positions again, but after the end of the race he was penalized for a collision with another participant, which dropped him back to 18th place.
Dauenhauer after the race: “Unfortunately, in the second race we didn’t have racing luck on our side and it came one thing after another. Nevertheless, I’m very satisfied with my comeback with a new team in the NASCAR European Championship. We were able to keep up with the top times on the first race weekend, took 3rd place in the junior classification and my team was able to gain important experience. I’m already looking forward to the next race and can’t wait any longer!” Next up is the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series from 07.-09. July at the Autodromo di Vallelunga (Rome) in Italy. Here, Dauenhauer and his team Bremotion will be at the starting grid again.
