The Frenchman defended the Club Challenge title with DF1 Racing, while the Japanese brought home three trophies
It was a perfect race weekend for Club Challenge champion Alain Mosqueron. Together with DF1 Racing, the Frenchman fought for the title in the Club Challenge – the regularity test in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series – which he had already won in 2019. But the task was not easy. Mosqueron had to win the last two classifications in order to overtake his rival Federico Monti, and he impressively succeeded in doing so. The Frenchman successfully defended his title, so the joy on the podium was huge afterwards.
“I feel great,” said the two-time Club Challenge Champion. “I’m back here in Valencia, on the track where I competed in my first race in 2019, and I’m right at the top of the podium. I love this track and I knew that I had to turn perfect laps to win the title here. We succeeded as a team. I thank DF1 Racing for this great year and now I’m working on getting into the EuroNASCAR 2 championship.”
The Japanese Kenko Miura returned to the NWES for the final of the EuroNASCAR 2 championship. He was supposed to compete for the entire season, but the pandemic made it impossible for him to enter Europe. Miura drove as if he had not missed a second in 2020: The DF1 Tiger won the Legend Trophy three times in four races, finished second in the special classification for drivers over 40 years of age once and was celebrated on the podium.
“We improved step by step in Valencia and set good lap times,” said Miura. “My goal was to drive clean races and maintain my good starting positions to win the Legend Trophy. I succeeded in doing so. I’m happy to have finally competed in races with DF1 Racing and I thank the whole team for the great work.”
Zihara Esteban returned to Europe’s official NASCAR series with DF1 Racing after her first steps in EuroNASCAR in 2013 and 2014. The Spaniard drove her home race at the wheel of the #22 Camaro and showed solid performances. “It was a great weekend, especially because I celebrated my birthday on site in a very famous racing series with a wonderful team,” said the DF1 Tiger. “It was great to be back in a race car after three years. I am very grateful to the team for their enthusiasm and the great work over the past weekend.”
The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series 2021 will start in April at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. Afterwards, six more legendary circuits will be visited throughout Europe: Vallelunga (Italy), Most (Czech Republic), Brands Hatch (UK), Hockenheim (Germany), Grobnik (Croatia) and Zolder (Belgium). DF1 Racing plans to field four NASCAR cars next year.
