PRESS RELEASE

Gordon Barnes will compete in the 2020 EuroNASCAR Club Challenge

Marko Stipp Motorsport and Gordon Barnes have now officially confirmed to enter the 2020 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Club Challenge season together. The Briton, who had his first taste of EuroNASCAR in the official recruitment programme during the 2019/2020 off-season, is no stranger to the German team, however. Barnes has already helped the team secure valuable team championship points during the inaugural virtual EuroNASCAR Esports Series earlier this year, showing a great deal of speed and consistency.

“It’ll be good to make the debut with Marko Stipp Motorsport in the real world. We had our debut in the virtual world during the Esports Series so carrying that over into the real gives us some consistency and allows us to build on that relationship. We gained some useful points in the team championship already this year”, the 47-year-old explained.

“The goal, of course, is to have fun, enjoy myself and try to win the Club Challenge. Longer term, it’s to look to use this as a stepping stone into the full series. Other drivers have succeeded doing this, and hopefully I can follow in their tracks.”

Team owner Marko Stipp is also delighted to continue the relationship from the virtual into the real world: “Gordon has proven to be a fast and reliable driver in the EuroNASCAR Esports Series for us. He has proven the same in the real world when he made the switch to oval racing in recent years. Therefore, it is great to have him on board and I believe that he is more than capable to fight for the Club Challenge championship with us.”

The regularity-based Club Challenge championship is scheduled to run four rounds during the weekends of the 2020 EuroNASCAR season, visiting Circuit Zolder (Belgium), Hockenheimring (Germany), Autodrom Most (Czech Republic) and Circuit Ricardo Tormo (Spain). The first round at Circuit Zolder is set to be held on 1st October 2020.
