PRESS RELEASE

It was the Czech’s first Pole Award of his EuroNASCAR 2 career

Heavy rain started to fall on Circuit Zolder for EuroNASCAR 2 Qualifying and in a shortened session Martin Doubek grabbed his first career Pole Award in the very last lap before the red flag. The Czech, who returned to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series grid after missing the season opener in Vallelunga, edged his teammate Tobias Dauenhauer by a mere .035 seconds.

“I’m really happy to be back and to get my first pole position. The car was fantastic and we made a very good lap in the end,” said Doubek. “I hope for the best result and to get a place on the podium. It will most probably rain again this afternoon, so it’s not going to be easy but I really hope to climb on the podium!”

Entering the NASCAR GP Belgium as the EN2 points leader, Dauenhauer will once again start from the front row and lead the Rookie Trophy contenders, while Nicholas Risitano, Simon Pilate and Andreas Jochimsen will close the top 5. Alessandro Brigatti will start sixth ahead of local hero Guillaume Dumarey and Francesco Garisto.

Julia Landauer was fourth quickest but she will start ninth on the grid due to a penalty she received in practice on Friday. The American, who topped the Lady Trophy standings, will start alongside Dylan Derdaele, who rounded out the top 10. Evgeny Sokolovsky was quickest in the Legend Trophy in 12th position ahead of NWES returnee Matthias Hauer in 15th.

The session was red flagged three times. Twice for cars in the gravel at turn 1 – Vladimiros Tziortzis and Igor Romanov – that were able to rejoin and a final one when Simon Pilate’s #6 car went off track at turn 6. Qualifying was shortened after this last incident.

The EuroNASCAR 2 Round 3 of the NASCAR GP Belgium – featuring 15 laps of “Pure Racing” – will start at 17:10 CEST and be broadcasted live on EuroNASCAR’s social media profiles and Motorsport.tv.
