The Swiss is ready for his new EuroNASCAR PRO adventure

After Giorgio Maggi had fought for the title in the EuroNASCAR 2 Championship up to the last corner last year, the Swiss driver will move up to the EuroNASCAR PRO championship in the 2020 season to compete with the elite of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES). In the #18 Ford Mustang by Hendriks Motorsport, Maggi will be chasing for points at the Autodromo di Vallelunga next weekend.

The runner-up of the 2019 season will face many strong competitors, most notably his team-mate and 2019 NWES champion Loris Hezemans. Two-time NWES champion Alon Day and former Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve are also notable mentions among the 21 drivers Maggi has to compete against this season. Despite the fierce competition in the official European NASCAR series, Maggi believes he will quickly get used to the new level.

“The season opener will be a real challenge because we have only tested for two days,” said the 22-year-old, who has so far won three races in 13 NWES races. “Furthermore, the Autodromo di Vallelunga is a completely new track for me and the team. Nevertheless, I am sure that we will master the challenge. I am very much looking forward to the race and I am ready to take on the competition. On Thursday we will see for the first time where we stand in comparison to the others”.

With the champion team behind him, the goal is of course to keep up with the front runners. In addition to the championship, Maggi also focuses on the Junior Trophy, which all pilots up to the age of 25 compete for. The current winner of the special classification is the NWES champion Hezemans, who was crowned the youngest champion in the history of the series in 2019. With a perfect season Maggi could walk in his footsteps, but until then there is a lot of work ahead of the Swiss and Dutch teams.

The races at the Autodromo di Vallelunga in Italy will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel, Facebook page and Twitch profile of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. All information about the event schedule and broadcast can be found on the official website of the series:
